This assignment will explore the fundamental part of the design process: identifying and utilizing the basic elements of a place. This will be the foundation upon which to respond to sites in both their perceptual directness and physical constraints and opportunities. Students are expected to develop their own design process and technical skills with greater self-assurance and individuality, as well as articulate their ideas with greater clarity and conviction. This initial exercise is designed to provide students with an exploration of a wide array of issues associated with this project and studio. It is to examine student’s ability in recognizing a potential site/space to be adapted and further develop into architectural space with specific function.
